چکیده

Increasing food demand has resulted in an ever increasing for nitrogen fertilizers. Ammonium is the main constituent of these fertilizers and a threat to aquatic environments around world. With focus on treatment drinking water, scope this study was investigate influence key parameters suitability granular natural zeolites as adsorbents ammonium. Sorption experiments were performed artificial matrices by varying grain size, contact time, ammonium concentration, pH, content competing ions, regeneration solutions used. Additionally, point zero charge (pzc) investigated. initial concentration 10 mgN/L, size shown have no significant effect sorption efficiency (97–98%). The experimental data obtained best described Langmuir adsorption model (R2 = 0.99). Minor effects observed at different pH values presence anions. In addition, pHPZC determined be between 6.24 6.47. Potassium ions better than sodium previously loaded zeolites, potassium also competitor sorption. use tap, bank filtrate, river, groundwater decreased capacity up 8%. Based our results, are promising cost-effective water treatment, especially threshold developing countries.

A new Method for the Removal of Ammonium from Drinking Water Using Hybrid Method of Modified Zeolites / Catalytic Ozonation

Introduction: Ammonia in form of ammonium ions is toxic and could decrease the dissolved oxygen in water and endanger the aquatic life. The aim of this study is the removal of ammonium using oxidation and adsorption by catalytic ozonation and clinoptilolite zeolite, respectively. Methods: The research method is Experimental. First, optimal pH of ammonium adsorption on carbon catalyst (5 g/L), ...

Natural Zeolites Application as Sustainable Adsorbent for Heavy Metals Removal from Drinking Water

Background: There are great resources of natural zeolite in Iran. Zeolite, an inorganic ion-exchanger, may be used as a suitable technical-economical solution for water treatment in many regions of Iran. In this study, the characterization of natural zeolite natrolite and the feasibility of removing hardness, cations, and anions were investigated. Methods: First, zeolite composition and type...

Ammonium removal from wastewaters using natural New Zealand zeolites

Ammoniacal nitrogen (ammonia and ammonium) in agricultural wastewaters can promote eutrophication of receiving waters and be potentially toxic to fish and other aquatic life. Zeolites, which are hydrated aluminum-silicate minerals, have an affinity for ammonium ions (NH4"") and are, therefore, potentially useful in removing this contaminant from wastewaters. The major objectives of this study w...
